Fascinating images from all parts of science!

Vor-Tek Emergency Extraction Line (EEL)
One of the most innovative entries in the Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X Challenge was inventor Ashley Day's EEL. Note how the EEL's active suction "stacks up" the oil in layers in front, and leaves a blue swath of clean water behind. The EEL performed well enough in calm water to win a prize but did not perform as well in simulated rough seas.
