I just received an e-mail from Sam Shankland (and a followup from Jennifer Shahade) saying that Jesse Kraai, David Pruess, and Arun Sharma were in a serious car accident coming back from the Far West Open in Reno. All three were taken to the hospital but they have now been released and are staying the night in a hotel near the hospital. Jen says that “they are a little sore and shaken but OK and heading home tomorrow.”
I hope you’ll join me in wishing all of them a speedy recovery and a safe journey home.
This is especially weird for me because Jesse e-mailed me last week and asked if I was interested in coming to the Far West Open with them. We carpooled to the same tournament last year. I couldn’t go this year, however, because I had a business trip (I was presenting a couple of talks at Washington State University). It’s scary to think that I could have been the fourth person in that car. Or maybe I would have been driving, and could have kept the crash from happening. Who knows? Life happens the way it happens.

That is scary indeed! I was really relieved when i read that they were fine, more or less.
please keep us posted on how they are doing.
Glad to hear everyone seems okay. The earthquake Sunday in So. Cal. was pretty scary too.
